Bloom Painting (oil on canvas); this was the inpiration for the Intersections collection. We developed 5 coordinte prints based upon other paintings of Lily's (sharing the same sensibility) that resulted in a 15 sku collection.

P&B Textiles, the company I worked with from 2003 to 2015, creates original 100% cotton print collections that are sold to independent quilt shops around the world. P&B designs in house as well as partners with a wide range of guest artists who include quilters, illustrators, graphic designers, museums, and fine artists.
Both types of development involved close collaboration with a creative team consisting of a head of product development, freelance textile artists, sales reps, and mills. We strove to create and produce the most beautiful printed fabrics that any quilt shop owner would love to have in his or her shop.
Lily Martine Baxter
These images show how we interpreted the oil paintings of fine artist Lily Martine Baxter
into a fabric collection called "Intersections", always keeping in mind Lily's aesthetic as well as the vision of a quilt that will retain the overall beauty and sensibility of her artwork. My role was to work closely with Lily to ensure that the look and feel of her paintings was maintained while also making sure that the transition into fabric would work well for the quilter.
Quilt Fabric Design
P&B developed "Close To Home" based on the exquisite ceramics of Sara Post. This is another example of how we were inspired by the design and color of a fine artist which we then translated into fabric.
The Basics / Essentials 2
Every quilter needs a stash of basics with which to work. P&B was the first to put Basics on the map over 50 years ago, and continually updates this large range (64 skus) of low contrast essential blender prints. In recent years we transitioned to developing more contemporary basics as trends evolved. I was instrumental in basics development from print design to color.
Other Guest Artist Collections
There are dozens of other guest artists with whom P&B has partnered, and with whom I had
the priviledge to work closely with. In each case, we translated original artwork into printed fabric collections. Here is a small sampling (click collection image to see swatches).
P&B is fortunate to work with supremely talented artists. Our goal was to replicate their vision as closely as possible, either traditionally via screen printing or digitally. Here are two examples showing how original artwork - in the case of Lily Martine Baxter, oil paintings, and for Sarah Post, ceramics - was transformed to printed fabric via traditional screenprinting while working very closely with each artist.
